The Manchester United rejected two offers from Chelsea to buy Rooney (27 years) at the time which confirms the team coach, David Moyes, his rejection of the departure of the player who scored 156 goals in the Premier League since 2002.
Rooney had said he was "narrow" and "confusion" about the role played by the Red Devils.
Mourinho said "the person who initiated this story had to end it, it will be a good thing for all", in reference to Rooney's remarks that prompted Chelsea to move.
